csp(critical System Protection) database move

i have a client that there database server had a issue and they moved teh database to a new server with new server name and ip address what do I tell teh client how to get the database re connected

Might not be the best way but, what I do is assign the old server name to the new server.

it is a shared database server so I am not able to do that
