Hello,

I just setup DNS and now I need to manually add an entry. I have a Novell Server that I use for testing. It is named NW1. I cannot ping NW1 because I don't have a DNS entry. I am a DNS newbie so I need help and I would appreciate it if you would spell it out for me. I believe I need to create a forward lookup and a reverse lookup zone for this. Is this right?

Please let me know the steps I need to take to add this computer to DNS.

Computer Name: NW1
Computer IP Address: 192.168.1.15

I am working on a Windows 2003 R2 Server with DNS installed. Currently, there is only one lookup zone, and it is like acme.local.

Thanks,
John

Right click on the forward lookup zone foe acme.local.  Select New Host (A).  Enter the computer name (nw1) and then enter the IP.  Click Add Host.

Thanks! This might have sounded too easy but I want to make sure I do everything right this time.
