I have configured an SFTP server on my laptop, using an application called Serv-U. I installed putty on a remote computer and tried connecting to a remote SFTP session but I get an error saying that "the Server refused to allocate pty." Currently the ports 22, 990 (TCP and UDP), and port range 50000-50004 (TCP and UDP) are open. Please see attached image.

I also get an error message saying "Server refused to start a shell/command. Is this because I am using putty? what other sftp clients are there?

    Accepted Solution

The putty that I was using is not an SFTP client. It worked after I used PSFTP. I finally settled for bitvise tunnelier
