Windows 7 Deployment

We are an XP Professional environment and preparing to deploy Windows 7 beginning of next year. I've deployed Windows 7 through individual installs on a couple users computers outside of the IT Department. We don't have configuration manager and we use Windows Server 2003. We are a larger environment and by reading about deployment at TechNet trying to get ideas. But I wanted to hear about how some of you deployed Windows 7 without any type of configuration manager or would go about it. I'm trying to figure out the best possible way. Much appreciated everybody.

Hi cityofpasco,

read this. Very interesting and thorough article:
The way that has worked best for me is to copy the users profile to a usb key and copy JUST documents to the windows 7. You can't do a stright forward profile copy because Windows 7 stores things way differently that they were stored in XP.
We installed Win 7 and all the needed application on one machine, then used imagex to capture it in a WIM file on an external USB HDD
After this was done we boot into the PE Recovery Enviroment and again used imagex to apply the image to the other machines. Worked fine.

Great article nimatejic thank you and thank you sardiskan for your input that makes sense. Just trying to gather my thoughts and I just heard we might be getting Configuration Manager so if that happens then it'll be alot easier. I noticed that when I updated my XP machine to Windows 7 a couple of months ago that it does store things differently. Sorry for the low point value but I didn't think much of it. How do I split the points between you two? This is my first time posting a question on EE.
