Hi
I have an exchange server 2007 setup
mailbox server is a cluster
mta is running on a seperate server
Email is routed in via a email virus/spam scaner in teh DMZ

We are getting the follwing error when a mail is set in over 10mb...

administrator@domain on 17/12/2009 22:12
This message is larger than the current system limit or the recipient's mailbox is full.  Create a shorter message body or remove attachments and try sending it again.
Msg Size greater than allowed by Remote Host>

This mail is gettin past teh virus scanner and passed to exchange mta

I have set the following on the ExchageMTA server

Set-TransportConfig -MaxReceiveSize 50MB -MaxSendSize 50MB
Set-ReceiveConnector "connectorname" -MaxMessageSize 50Mb
Set-SendConnector "CONNECTOR NAME" -MaxMessageSize 50Mb

get -transportconfig displays

I am now unsure as to why and where this 10mb limit is coming from

Check other receive connectors as well set them to accept 50 mb and also check users mailbox size limit and mailbox size.

When you say routed via "email virus/spam scaner in teh DMZ" does it has any limits set ??
Run the commands
Get-TransportConfig |fl
Get-ReceiveConnector |fl
Get-SendConnector |fl

These looks absolutely fine ... did you try restarting the Micrsofot Exchange Transport service ??
Just give me few minutes checking my server
Any transpoprt settings ??
Is it the same with all users or some .... have you check with all ??
How is your mail routing ... from external to internal ??

Is your mail going through the Exchange 2003? The message seems to indicate it is possibly from Exchange 2003.

Can you also run through powershell commands and follow blog entry here:

http://exchangeshell.wordpress.com/2009/10/11/managing-message-size-limits-in-exchange-2007-using-powershell/

In particular, where you have unlimited, you may need to change to a limit.

Have you checked that Trend micro that you are using on this site is not configured to reject based on message size?

Also you have two MX records for the domain, are these to same server, if not, have you checked limit on both?

So if you use Outlook Express or windows mail internally (on a LAN workstation or directly on the server) and connect directly to exchange server using PoP\SMTP and then try sending a mail item with attachment larger than 10MB does it go through?

Don't authenticate or anything, just try setting up the SMTP mailer with external email address and test sending to one of your internal recipients
