How to upload a local directory to an apache webserver using macosx terminal?

I am logging into my apache webserver from macosx using terminal. I want to upload a local directory on my mac machine to the would I do that (including recursive)?

    To confirm:  does the Apache server support FTP or WebDAV?

    scp would be the easiest

    scp -r /directory/to/upload webserverHost:/where/to/upload/to
