Remote Desktop Disconnected - The remote computer disconnected the session because of an error in the licensing protocol.

I had a hard drive die on a windows xp pro machine that was connecting to a windows 2000 terminal server. I replaced the machine with a new PC and am getting the following error:

Remote Desktop Disconnected - The remote computer disconnected the session because of an error in the licensing protocol.

There are a total of 4 machines on this network. 3 of them are windows 2000 machines and have no problem connecting to the terminal server. This machine is the only xp machine and can not connect, although the previous xp machine could. I have tried all the registry key removal instructions that I could find on the web with no ressults. I did not set up this server, and it is running under a work group... Not a domain.

Any help that I can get on this matter will be greatly appreciated!!!!

Thanks

Just a quick thought but have you checked the system clock on the affected client?  Is it within 5 minutes of the TS and AD server?

I just checked the time on the client and the server. The TS server was about 8 mins behind the Clent server, so I adjusted the times. Both machines are showing the same time now, but still not working on the xp machine.

Thanks

Yes, I have tried that, and just did it again to make sure. I still keep getting the same error message.

I am not sure if this will help much, but this is the event that I get from the server:

Event ID 1004: Terminal server cannot issue a client license.

Thanks

Problem resolved!!!! I ended up uninstalling and reinstalling the licensing server and then reconnecting back to it. Thanks for all of your help.
