SharePoint distribution list gets created but not the associated contact

I'm setting up distribution list creation in SharePoint.  I have everything set up, can create the list, approve it, email to it.  But, it doesn't create the dl.discussion contact like it should.  Does this even matter?  I can't find anything that even explain why or what for on this contact.

I'd appreciate any help, thanks

Email integration in Sharepoint is tricky to setup.  The service account your Sharepoint installation is running in MUST have the ability to manage Contacts in an OU in Active Directory.

To help with diagnostics turn on "Diagnostic Logging" and set the Email categories to verbose.

I have the AD group checking this.  But it doesn't seem like that would be it since I'm able to create contacts for the email enabled lists and libraries.  I'm setting up the diagnostic logging and will let you know what I find.

Ok, I created one, the logs show the following

    Alias: spwebsitesemailtest
Name: DOC DL SP Email Test Group

The AD person said that the account has full control on the OU, that the account has allow on all permissions.  He said he can't give it anything else?

The contact is created for email enabled lists.  Try to create an email enabled list and see if it fails.  If it does, your email integration isn't working correctly.

I can create the contact for an email enabled list.  I did figure out what the other dl.discussion contact is.   It gets created if you tell SharePoint to archive emails that go to a distribution list when you create it.  It does work.  I thought it got created on all distribution lists, it doesn't.  Thanks for your help though I did get everything to work.

There are two types of contacts that get created. One for email enabled libraries and lists, the other for archival of distribution list emails.  Thank you
