Showsound icon in notification area in Windows 7

i cant see sounds icon in notification area as to enable it again ?i tried to enable but got grey button as in the attached image, any idea to do that ?  

i have the recent driver installed.

    What do you have in device manager ?
    also see if the service is started (type in start menu services)

    device manager does not shows any problems with drivers, the service is started ( i have restarted it).

    my problem is not with sounds , but i want to be able to control sounds from notification area,

    Restart the machine solve my problem, but i wanted it to be solved without restart :S
