Server askin for credentials windows 2003

I messed up some permissions inmy server. Do not know exactly what

I was able to run the smartermail app with

http://ip:9998 and I was in, just enteres user and credentials.

Now after http://ip:9998 I am requested for the server administrator credentials. I enter them and then redirected to the smartermail app...

How can I return to the initial state (no administrator credentials required?

Check within IIS and ensure these settings:

right click the website and choose properties -> look for "Directory Security" and ensure that Anonymous access is enabled / windows authentication is enabled.

Ensure permissions on the files will allow the IIS_USR account used for anonymous access has read permissions to the folders/files within

if you right click the website within IIS and choose "Explore", it will bring up the folder of the files being used for the site.  I would check that these have "read" permissions for whatever account you're using for anonymous access.

Another thing to try would be to disable "windows authentication" from within the Directory Security section of the site's properties and ensure the Anonymous access is the only thing on with read/write permissions to test and ensure that the functionality of IIS and permissions are working properly.  You can then scale back to the windows authentication and begin assigning access permissions to those who are allowed to access it (domain users, etc).
