How do I shut down Windows XP stuck in 'shutting down' in fusion virtual machine on MAC?

My virtual fusion machine state is frozen in 'shutting down' Windows xp. If I turn off computer or shut down guest or turn off machine in Fusion all bring up a dialogue asking if I want to suspend and save virtual machine or cancel the shutdown. I cannot get past saving the virtual state. I am hung up in Windows.

    Have you tried this already:

    On a real machine, I would have just switched the power button and be done with, but in this case I did not have this choice. I lauched Activity Monitor (task manager for OS X) and found the process that hosted the VM. The process is called vmware-vmx, and upon killing this bad boy, my VM was immediately powered off. I then proceeded to reboot and everything worked fine.

    Of cause this is last resort. you are not doing well to windows. On the other hand a power surge doesn't do either.

    I suggest you install service pack 3 for windows xp and also try these suggestions:
