Google sync not in Address Book OS 10.5.8
My wife's MacBook is running 10.5.8. According to Apple, in 10.5.3 (and in all others after that, I assume), there is a checkbox in AddressBook's prefs to allow syncing to Google Calendar and contacts. However, on my wife's Mac, there is .Mac and Yahoo, but not Google.
I'm running OS 10.6.2 and I have the Google checkbox.
I found a hack (published just before 10.5.3 came out) that is supposed to fix the problem (change a value in com.apple.ipod.plist), but that didn't work.
Any ideas?

Unfortunately, 4.1.2.
Do you know how to uninstall it so I can reinstall it?

Sadly, it is not easy. If I remember correctly, Address Book is installed with Mac OS-X and not part of the "bundled software" that comes with it.
You can use a program called Pacifist (http://www.charlessoft.com/) to get it back installed, but it is not trivial, so best not to do that. You could try deleting preferences, but not sure why that would help.
Can you take a screen shot of the address book preferences please?
FYI: Here is what I see:

Stupid question: But the computer has been rebooted since the last software update?
One more thing. I found this on Google's website:
See here: http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Google+Mobile/thread?tid=6309a13bb1296605&hl=en#all
"The preferences setting for Google sync in the mac Address Book app only works if a device, such as a mobile phone, is also being synced using the mac's iSync application."
So could it be that there is no phone synced on your wife's Mac?

Thank you all!
orrubin - there's is NEVER a stupid question, since none of us know each other and anyone, even an expert, can make mistakes. Also, my snapshot would look exactly like yours except for the bottom line of the General window.
All of the above suggestions have been tried.
I decided late yesterday to install Snow Leopard on the machine, thereby, supposedly, overcoming the issue. It did, but only for Address Book. Contacts are now syncing properly and her phone once again tells her who is calling (the phone went barren of all useful personal information while using Missing Sync - a tale for another day).
Anyway, I will start a new question here about syncing to Google Calendar if I can't get it solved today.
Thanks for the help.

I'll go with your last comment, orrubin. You did try to help.
Thanks. I was going to suggest a new update, but thought you had just done that. Happy it is working.
Cheers.
Cheers.
When I open Address Book preferences on MacOS 10.5.8 (iMac G5), I see Sync with MobileMe, Sync with Exchange, Sync with Yahoo, and Sync with Google.
Address book says it s version 4.1.2.
