Crystal Reports newbie - how to increase text size

Greetings experts of Crystal Reports.

I am 100% newbie on Crystal Reports and my first task is to increase the character size from 255 to 3000. How do I do this?

Sorry, I am a complete newbie to Crystal Reports.

you should be able to type 3000 into the font size box when you have the field selected

You mean char(255) to char(3000)? That's a database thing.

So, do you mean font size, data size or displayed field size?

Thanks to you guys for prompt response.

I have the size defined correctly in the db as nvarchar(3000).

However, the values are getting truncated on Crystal Reports.

I just want to know what process to follow to increase Crystal Reports size to match that of database.

Please treat me as a complete idiot on Crystal Reports.

We have an app that just went LIVe this last Friday.

Our Crystal Reports person is on vacation so I am trying to figure out how to increase the size, what process to follow so users can print the report for their daily routines.

Thanks a lot

One more thing to add, in the Crystal Reports, as I am looking at it now, the field I am trying to change is defined as String[255].

Not sure how large the size goes in Crystal Reports but I want to be able to change that from String[255] to String[3000] or the maximum allowed in Crystal Reports.

I just want to know where to go to modify the size. Even if it isn't possible, I would like to know how.

Thanks for your response.

WHat do you mean the size?

Are you referring to the size of the field or the box on the report?

hi mlmcc.

Thanks again for your response.
I think that the best way to explain is to take a look at the example below.

On our .net app running, if you look at the screen, you see something like this (not actual text, just example).

msdvmasdfmdfmsdfmsdfmsdfmsdfmsdfmsdfmmmsdfmsdfmsdfmsdfmmasdf
nmsdfmsdf,sdfmsdfmsdfmsdfmsdfmsdfmsdfmsdfmsdfmsdfmasdfmmsdfmasdf
mklsdfmsdfmasdfmsdfmsdfmsdfmasdfmasdfmsdfmsdfmsdfmsdfmsdfmsdfmmasdf
msdfamsdfm,sdfmsdfmsdfmsdfmsdfmsdfmsdfmsd fmsdfmsdfmmsdfmsdfmsdfmsdfm

nsdfnsdfnsdfnsdfnsdfnsdfnsdfnsdfnsdfnsdfnnsdfnsdfnsdfnsdfnsdfnnsdf nmasdfnnsdf
nsdfnsdfnsdfnsdfnsdfnsdfnsdfnsdfnsdfnsdfnnsdfnsdfnsdfnsdfnndfnnsdfnnsdfnnsdf

However, when they click the print the report on Crystal Reports, they see something like this:

msdvmasdfmdfmsdfmsdfmsdfmsdfmsdfmsdfmmmsdfmsdfmsdfmsdfmmasdf
nmsdfmsdf,sdfmsdfmsdfmsdfmsdfmsdfmsdfmsdfmsdfmsdfmasdfmmsdfmasdf
mklsdfmsdfmasdfmsdfmsdfmsdfmasdfmasdfmsdfmsdfmsdfmsdfmsdfmsdfmmasdf
msdfamsdfm,sdfmsdfmsdfmsdfmsdfmsdfmsdfmsd

Notice the truncation.

Now when I opened the Crystal Reports editor designer, clicked on Field Explorer, and then Database fields, I see for instance Comments which is the filedname I am looking to change and reads something like this:

Comments[255] even though on the database, I have it like this:

nvarchar(3000).

If you can help me urgently on how to increate this on Crystal -> Comments[255] .

I really would appreciate. They have court date at 3pm and they have to have a copy for the judges.

Thanks a lot in advance.

Have you tried a VERIFY DATABASE under the DATABASE menu?

Crystal may not handle NVarchar correctly.  We made all our field VarChar.  Do you have Unicode in the text?

YES, that did it!!

You sure are a Savant.

Thanks soooo much. Just in time for the court.

I am truly grateful mlmcc.

BTW: It seemed to have accepted all [3000] character length.
