I have just created a new Win 2008 R2 domain.  I gave it the FQDN of 'company.com'.  I have named my server 'Server'.  I have been having problems connecting workstations and it turns out that when I open Internet Explorer and go to 'company.com' it brings me to  a totally unrelated website at IP 74.117.221.11

I believe I must rename my internal domain name.  Is that correct?

This is also causing me major problems implementing antivirus software with Trend.
Am I correct that I must change my domain name.
What should I be doing here?

yeah... typically, you would make your internal domain name something that is not live on the Internet.  For example, if you have company.com on the Internet, you would use Company.internal or company.local for the Windows 2008 domain name...

Theoretically you can make the external domain name the same as your internal domain name...but this leads to some complexity when creating your DNS.

I would simply rebuild your domain if you just have one server... this is the cleanest way to fix the problem...

I have this server in production already.  It seems that I cannot use my server to run rendom as it is my only server.
Rebuilding this server is not an option right now.  Perhaps in couple of weeks, but not now.  Is there something in DNS that I can use as a quick fix?
My biggest problem is that when my users log on it easily takes 10 minutes to complete 'Applying computer settings'
Once in all workstations work fine.

In my DNS forward loouip zones I have:
_msdcs.company.com (which contains DC, Domains, GC, pdc)
and
company.local which has nothing under it.

I sure hope there is something I can do to get through the next couple of weeks.

quick fix...

In TCP/IP settings of ALL server and clients.

Lets assume your DC IP = 10.10.10.5

Point TCP/IP Settings of each server and client to 10.10.10.5 for DNS... (do not point to any other IP Address)

REboot server...  try to reboot one client and login... see if time is reduced.

I believe I have made the above change as requested (both on the server and the workstation NIC).  I rebooted both and 'applying computer changes' is still taking upwards of 10 minutes.
