How do I fix the audio on a acer laptop?

I have a acer aspire laptop 5315 that has no audio.  It is a vista machine.  I have put on cyberlink dvd to see if the acer media or media player had issues but no audio there either.  I have uninstalled the audio driver and went to acer and downloaded the audio driver again but still no audio.  It also came up with a error that that stated that the audio settiings could not be set and try to install a ac3 filter which i did but nothing.  i can not get the headphone speaker or the laptop speake to play any audio.  everything with the audio settings seem to be on but....

so can you manipulate the audio setting...i.e in control panel - audio and sound, is the audio controls movable or are they faded out?
make sure also that the audio is enabled.

First - determine if the audio device is enabled, if not, either the driver/driver install is bad or the hardware itself.
Second, verify that the audio is enabled and that the settings are correct.  See silemone post.

I have enabled the audio. I know that the driver is installed correctly. I can manipulate the sound as if the speakers were working properly, but there is no sound coming from my computer. In otherwords i have a driver on my computer that is working, but i have no sounds still.
look over these options..

Do you hear the beep sound when the computer starts up?
If  no beeps heard on start-up  you need to check the speaker
and its connection to the motherboard.

its not a audio issue sorry.  its the ability to download a movie for a ipod touch that has its original library on another computer  when i go to my laptop itunes wont let me download a movie video because of that.  however the music download works fine.  i beleive it has something to do with itunes but not sure if there is away around sycning a ipod on another computer without losing my original movie downloads.
