How to connect to a shared printer and have it reflect the same name as on the sharing machine.

We have a custom application that needs to see the  printer name the same on two boxes but when we connect to a shared printer in windows XP it appends the computer name of the PC sharing the printer. Is there a way to connect to a windows printer and have it reflect the name without the PC name added to it?

Not quite get what your request is.
So you have a printer, which is connect to a XP machine? How is it connected? USB? Network?
And the printer is shared out from the XP machine, right? If so, other XP machines who need to use the printer will have to use \\XPmachinename\printershare to access the printer.
if you can join the network through domain it can be possible

We are sharing the printer off an XP machine another XP machine connects to the printer shared off the first but the name of the PC sharing the printer is appended to the name. I need the name to be the same.
Unfortunatley there is no domain in this circumstance, its just a workgroup. Sharing a USB printer off XP box A, xp box B connects to the printer but XP box A's machine name is appended to the printer name. Trying to get the name to be the same, possibly a registry hack?
