I have a Fixed Asset list formatted in .csv and was wondering how to go about importing the Assets into GP.

Hi,

There are two ways to import assets into GP.

1) Under Tools -> Utilities -> Fixed Assets -> Asset Import Export.  This allows you to import the basic asset record only.  It does not allow you to import your asset books.  If you don't have many assets and can manually setup the books and other asset settings, this may be sufficient.

2) Integration Manager.  "IM" is an import tool that will allow you to import your list of assets, plus books, and most other settings you may need to fully setup assets.  If you have hundreds or thousands of assets, this is probably the better choice, although this tool must be purchased separately, and is several thousand dollars.

Let me know if one of these sounds like a better fit, and if you have any additional questions.

Thanks,

I do have Integration Manager, but I don't see anything in it related to Fixed Assets under Destination mapping.

Hi,

Try looking under the eConnect adapters.  There should be a folder called "Fixed Asset Manager".

If you don't see it, go into Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs and then select Integration Manager and click on Change.

Make sure that you have the eConnect destination adapters installed.

If they still don't show up, try installing IM 10 SP4 (reboot required).

Thanks,

I personally prefer to use the Fixed Asset Import utility.  (Microsoft Dynamics GP menu > Tools > Utilities > Fixed Assets > Asset Import/Export)  Maybe it's because I have been importing Fixed Assets for many years, before the IM/eConnect options were available.

The import utility does allow import of fixed asset books - these just need to be set up in a separate file and imported after the asset records.  Details for using the import utility are in the Dynamics GP 10.0 Fixed Assets manual - chapter 7 (starting on page 63).  There you can find all the field mapping and details needed to use the import utility.
