hi,
i am a newbie in web server. i need to configure web server in my office. i am using ubuntu 8.04lts,  i will be using apache, php, mysql for server. need help in configuring web server. and as i am a newbie so plz guide me from starting

dear madunix,

i had already configured according to ur given link.
 http://www.howtoforge.org/installing-apache2-with-php5-and-mysql-support-on-ubuntu-9.04-lamp

by this link i am able to login in my browser in phpmyadmin account but in these how to there is not deep knowledge. its a very very small how to in which they have not shown how to configure even  apache.

plz guide me i am having confusion, i am going by ur given link.

Change the DocumentRoot to point to the new location. For example, /home/user/public_html/

above it is said to change DocumentRoot to point new location /home/user/public.html

here what does user means

the user you are logged in as
whoami
command can give u the answer for that

well i had created directory like this

root@server1:~# cd /home/user/public_html/
root@server1:/home/user/public_html#

n its working.
