Set mysql to write into /tmp  and not /var/tmp

How do I set mysql to write to /tmp and not /var/tmp.

How can I edit this config to do this.

I am using freebsd 7.2 and mysql 5

    in my.cnf:

    tmpdir                                                = /tmp/

    # Point the following paths to different dedicated disks
    #tmpdir            = /tmp/

    To do Just conver to this ?
