Our accountant keeps getting this message over and over again "microsoft sql server desktop engine needs to install" and just when it looks like it will finish, it starts all over again. The little bit of info I found on Google said something might be wrong in the Registry.

The PC has Windows XP Pro /w service pack 3 and uses ADP Payroll for Windows software. Her computer has administrator privileges and I already uninstalled/re-installed sql the day before and its still popping up on her screen constantly.

Its driving her nuts! Need help!

I know it sounds like a stupid question, but I have to ask (cause I'm stupid sometimes), after the uninstall, did you reboot the machine?  Sometimes registry entries get locked or stuck after an uninstall and won't clear out until the system is loaded again.

If it continues, please uninstall it and run a registry cleaner program (i use regseeker, but if you have something you like better, please run that), to ensure all entries to this are taken out.

What version of sql is this trying to run?

Everything I googled pointed to doing a local install of the HP printer instead of adding a network printer. It worked - no more messages!

Thank you,
