LeftHand SAN Alerts- Email SMTP status 553, message: Invalid CHUNK size value

I've just deployed a HP LeftHand p4300 SAN.  I'm not attempting to configure email alerts from the Nodes and have come across the following error

Failed to sent Test Email because of the following error:   Email SMTP status 553, message: Invalid CHUNK size value.

My configuration has the LeftHand Management Console multi homed between the iSCSI network (10.10.10.x) and production network (192.168.0.x).   The IIS SMTP Virtual Server is installed and relaying messages to an exchange server on the production network.   I have tested and confirmed I can email from the Management server to external accounts.

Unfortunately I have also confirmed with LeftHand support that they have come across this issue before and inform it is an issue with the Mail server not accepting the 'CHUNK' size of the mail being sent from the lefthand.  They don't have any answer or work around to the issue even though they have seen it before which I thinks a bit of a cop out.

Help would be most appreciated.

The other disappointing response from HP/LeftHand
What is the Chunk Size?  they don't know
Can you alter it?  No (I guess it's a bit hard to alter something you don't know...)

thanks for the link, I'll have a read of it to see if I can find an answer.

Further info.
I have confirmed on the mail relay that it supports chunking so am now even more mystified why it's not working.

just curious, are you using xp to route the traffic? or did u install some software route?
Hi there.

I have just enabled IP Routing (forwarding) on the Win XP client.  Check this article out on how to do it.
