How do I fix a Local area network connection on HP6730s running Vista Business?
I reinstalled Vista Business and all the drivers on my HP6730s and still cannot connect to the internet. The notebook is connected to a 5 port switch. I've connected another laptop to the same port to confirm that the cable & port works. I've reset the NIC, swapped out cables and ports..
When I run Windows Network diagnostics to repair the NIC card, I get the message "Plug a cable into the network adapter "Local Area Connection"
Could someone tell me how to fix this problem? I'm stumped!

I connected the notebook directly to a network port (RJ45 - T1 line) and stil I get nothing. The device manager looks fine. However, in the problem reports & solutions, there is a problem listed "could not find driver software for PnPDriver; and unable to diagnose/repair network problems.
OK, so maybe the windows driver for your network card doesn't really work well. Try to find out what network card is built into your computer and download the driver manually. First I would have a look at the download and support website of the notebook's manufacturer to see if there are additional or updated drivers available for the network interface cards.

I have all the latest manufacturer drivers from hp web site installed, still no internet connection. However, I am getting an LED light now.

The connection is configured to obtain an IP address automatically (DHCP). I can ping 127.0.0.1. I can also connect to unsecured network with excellent strength (it says I'm connected) but cannot access internet although is is saying that I'm connected and I cannot connect to the internet via local area connection.

Do you see any unknown or not-installed devices in your device manager?
What cables do you use? straight or cross-over cables?
