Sonicwall password recovery from safe mode

Hi, we have a sonicwall 2000 set up by a staff member who is no longer here. Resetting the admin password seemed to go ok, but now we are unable to login, it seems to have been corrupted somehow and we need to reset the password.
I know it is allegedly not do-able, but has anybody ever managed to recover a lost password by entering safe mode on one of these boxes? We are trying to avoid reconfiguring the box as we dont have much info stored on the initial setup and would like to fix it before the client asks for any more changes to the box!
Any pointers much appreciated, I am quite unfamiliar with this device myself,
Thanks in advance,

You have a problem. There is no backdoor for password recovery on this router.

You will have to reset your router and import a config file or redo it from scratch.
