Server 2008 R2 Unable to ping IP

I have a newly promoted Windows Sertver 2008 R2 Datacenter Edt. with AD and DNS. I can ping internal DNS names, but if i try and ping 4.2.2.2 it times out. If I try and ping google.com it times out as well. The Server has a static address and is pointing to itself for the DNS. The DNS forwarders are the same as the primary DNS. I copied the root hints for the working server. I allowed everything thru the firewall. I found this http://weblogs.asp.net/owscott/archive/2009/09/15/windows-server-2008-r2-dns-issues.aspx
still the issue remains. Any ideas?

Check your default gateway; if you can't get to 4.2.2.2 by IP address, it's not a DNS issue.

the entire network can ping and access the internet thru the gateway, the server cannot browse the internet. I created two rules on the server firewall to allow all incoming and outgoing connections. I will verify my config on the gateway firewall and repost
It was a old access-list on my cisco firewall. THANKS!!!!
If you have rules for complete network (and not for individual IPs), than is not the problem an GW firewall.
Can you just disable FW on server?
Glad you have solved your problem.
Thank you.
