Compile Crystal Report 2008?

I have created a report in CR 2008 Developer.  It reads a MS SQL Server table and displays all of the records in the table.  Very simple.

Now I have two questions:

I want to save the report to a folder and when I click on the report, I want it to automatically refresh itself with the current records "and" show itself in a .pdf format.

How do I do that?  A dozen or so users will want to look at the report each day and they do not have CR 2008 Developer loaded on their machines.

Wasn't there a way in previous versions of CR to create an executable of the report so that when the users clicked on the report.exe, the report refreshed itself and displays on the screen?  That option is probably no longer available so how do I accomplish the same thing?

Do I need to create a visual basic program to show the report or is there a simplier way to show the report automatically in .pdf format?

Thanks

You will need an application to do this.  You can write one in VS.Net or use one froma third-party

Yes, CR8 and before had a compile feature so you could compile the report into an application.

As I said above, create your own application or use one from a third-party.

Hi mlmcc,

I have written a vb.net to export this report.  Here is the code in the form:

    Private Sub btnExport_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnExport.Click
        CrystalReportViewer1.ReportSource = retail_Kiosk_Sales1
        CrystalReportViewer1.ExportReport()
    End Sub

I have these questions:

1.  How do I modify the above code to export the report to .pdf format?  (It currently pops up some dialog boxs for me to fill out.  I want to pre-supply the answers as they will not change.)

2.  How do I tell it to use a certain name, i.e. Report.pdf and to save it in a specific folder?

3.  When I "Show" or "Export" the report, the VB.net app asks me to supply the password for the report's database.  How can I supply that automatically through the code so the user does not need to enter it?

Thanks for the help.

I checked the article but no where in it does it address the three questions I posted above.  The article looks like it is intended for beginning CR users.

Can you or someone address the above questions?  I have increased the points to 200.

Thanks for the help.

Sorry.  The export is in part 2 of the article

I have looked at these documents and they were written in an older version of vb.net (2006) that do not work in the current version of vb.net.  Can you point me towards a vb.net 2008 example that exports CR 2008 reports?

Thanks

No.  CR2008 is not supported on VS2008

I use MS VS 2008 and embed or link to CR 2008 reports all the time.  Are we talking apples and oranges?

Yes.  According to SAP/Crystal they don't support that environment.  Doesn't mean it won't work just they don't provide support if you have trouble.

I think you need to update to SP 2 or 3 then I think it is supported.

The same method should work with VS2008 that works with VS2005.  At least the author of the article says it works with VS2008
