New Dell Inspiron 1520 screen, now unable to change brightness

I just purchased a new monitor for my laptop on eBay. It is for a Dell Inspiron 1520. I have it installed and now I am unable to change the brightness of the screen. I also needed to change the inverter, so that is new and also from eBay. I was wondering if there is a driver for the screen that anyone knows of or any clues to solve this issue. The screen is a Samsung LTN154AT07. (I believe that it is version B01)

That's what should be at that link.  It's a site for Samsung drivers.  What do you mean by "did not pick up on the new screen"?

it showed that all drivers for the monitor are up to date.

Oh.  Then what do you mean by "would like a direct driver for the new screen"?  If the new screen is the model you listed, and the site says you have the most current driver, what can we do for you here?

I assume you are trying to use the keyboard to adjust the brightness, and I assume that is what's not working.  Does everything else seem to work OK?

sorry I've been using wrong wording all day. a driver specific to this screen is what i meant, if there is one. and no i had actually been using the keyboard to adjust the brightness i had been going through the control panel, thanks for the idea. that did help quite a bit, but it is still half of what it was before. but i can be happy with this. but still interested in getting this fixed properly.

Of course.

You gave me the model number of the screen, and that led me to the link I gave you.

You said that link told you that you have the latest driver for that model screen.

I guess I'm confused (it could be me, not you - I've been told this before).

Is the screen you're using the Samsung model you mentioned above?  Did the web site tell you that you have the most current driver for that model LCD?  If that's the case, maybe something didn't get hooked up correctly, or you might have a mismatch with the inverter.

You haven't told us, but is the screen too dim, or too bright?

Oh sorry Im confusing I think. Or so Im told. 8)

Yes that is the model of screen I have. The program downloaded from that site told me that I have the latest generic PnP driver, which is provided by windows. Im assuming that this screen may have a driver for it; if not there is nothing I can do. And the screen is too dim, sorry I forgot to mention that.  Might be a good thing for the eyes that it is. 8)

I believe that's the correct driver.  Are you sure you got the correct inverter?

I think the next step is to call HP Tech Support and ask them for a driver if you're sure all else is correct.

Just because the inverter was from eBay doesn't mean it's the right one.  Does it have a model number?

You did say it is a Dell, but in reading the specs the resellers of LCD displays, it is labelled on several sites as an LCD for HP laptops, which is why I mentioned HP support (I forgot you said it was a Dell).  I will look some more in the morning (it's 11:15PM here) to read other specs for the screen.

Can you post here the links to the two eBay purchase you made?  Go to the pages and copy the addresses and list them here.

Did you compare the screen you got with the one you removed.  The seller who provided the screen does business with hundreds of people each week.  It's possible they shipped the wrong LCD.  Their ad on eBay does not list the manufacturer of the LCD or the model number.  That bothers me (even though they have a 99.2% positive rating).

Are the two panels the same model, or different?  Are they different models from the same manufacturer?

If you can't tell, I suspect what you got somehow isn't right for your machine.  There should be no problem replacing the LCD with the same model.

As far as I know, you haven't called Dell about this.  If you cannot compare the two LCDs to see if they are the same, I would contact Dell to find out what model LCD was shipped with the system and which ones they use as replacement parts for those still under warranty.  They can tell you that.  If you have trouble, let me know and I will call them.  I am a reseller and they should work with me on this.

Once we have the info from Dell, if it's the wrong LCD, you can go back to the seller and get the right one.

did a bios update and also updated the driver for the video card. looks like everything is working now. it appears that this screen is just not as bright as my old one.

I'm sorry it won't work as well as you like.  I hope we helped a little, anyway.

If you are done pursuing this, please close the question.

Thank you!
