asked on

"The Active Directory Services Installaion Wizard is not supported on this SKU"

I am running Windows Storage Server 2008 and was attempting to promote the machine to a DC on our network and came up with the following error at the command line:

"The Active Directory Services Installaion Wizard is not supported on this SKU"
I was able to get the wizard in Windowes to install AD DS but now i need to make the server a DC.

How does DNS fit into this? I have 2 DNS servers on the network, so I assume that I'm OK.

What am i missing?

Thanks,
JPertchik

The problem may be the version you are running (storage server).  I'll check on that.
Can you post the dcpromoui.log file?
Thanks

Storage server CANNOT be used as a Domain Controller !
OK, But i have installed the services therefore i can get AD information. I want my users to not have to log into this machine if they need resources.
Is this how i get that?

In AD, the storage server is not showing up as a member server, but as a computer. How do i make it a member server?

It will show as a computer - there is no distiction between workstations and member servers
... a member server is simply a server that is not a domain controller, but is a member of the domain
Thanks EE!
