I am trying to access Itunes through a wireless connection on a laptop, but when I open iTunes it gives the error message - "iTunes could not connect to theiTunes store - make sure that your network connection i active and try again" I am running a Advent laptop with Norton 360 installed. I have disabled the Firewall on Norton 360 and I have also disabled the Fiewall on the router and I hae ensure that the Windows Firewall is also deactivated. I have checked the user accounts to ensure that there are no controls set and it appeas to be working find.

Does anyone have any ideas why this might be happening?

P.S I have also tried other software such as Limewire to see if it was just a problem with iTunes but I also got a network connection error within that application as well.

To make sure you are connected, go and do a random google search and if it says you are not connected you need to get a proper internet connection. If you are accessing it from work, sometimes companys block certain sites. Or you can try updating to itunes 9.2. That might help.

and also as rajquest said, your firewall usually doesn't block itunes, but try disabling it anyway.

    Assisted Solution

You have not disabled the Norton Firewall completely.
You must stop it's service to check.
Also add iTunes to trusted applications list.

I had turned Norton off and I have ensured that the Windows Firewall was not kicking in after Norton was disabled. It appears that Bullguard was installed on the machine although not active but yet it was still blocking it.

Many thanks for your suggestions as they help me to eventually resolve the issue
