Unable to access itunes

I am trying to access Itunes through a wireless connection on a laptop, but when I open iTunes it gives the error message - "iTunes could not connect to theiTunes store - make sure that your network connection i active and try again" I am running a Advent laptop with Norton 360 installed. I have disabled the Firewall on Norton 360 and I have also disabled the Fiewall on the router and I hae ensure that the Windows Firewall is also deactivated. I have checked the user accounts to ensure that there are no controls set and it appeas to be working find.
Does anyone have any ideas why this might be happening?
P.S I have also tried other software such as Limewire to see if it was just a problem with iTunes but I also got a network connection error within that application as well.
