Error in Renaming Folder in Windows Explorer

I would like to rename a folder but the error states :

Cannot rename ____ : Access is denied.
Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use.

However, I check that the owner is under my name and i have full rights to it.
the files in the folder are not even opened.

Are you sure there isn't a (system) process accessing or reading those files? You might find out by installing Unlocker, a freeware program that detects open files/folers from within explorer with a right-click option.

1) If the folder or a file from the folder is accessed by another program
2) Check the folder permissions | right click on the fodler>>properties>>security and check what permissions are allowed.

Download Process Explorer from http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx

When Process Explorer is running Press Ctrl + F. This will open the find Dialog Box. Enter the File Name in the Box & Process Explorer will find the Process using that file. Kill that Process in Process Explorer which is highlighted when you select that process in View window which opens & you will be able to rename the file then.

Or download Unlocker from http://www.filehippo.com/download_unlocker/ & select Unlock File from the Right click menu you get. This will close all open File handles & you will be able to rename the File then.

In case you have a few minutes, feel free to read my article at http://www.experts-exchange.com/articles/OS/Microsoft_Operating_Systems/Windows/XP/Applications-worthy-of-being-in-a-Windows-Techie-Toolkit.html & say how you like it.

Ravi.

Did you try all approaches mentioned by all experts above. Post what was the outcome of all what you tried and failed.

Permissions seems OK!  Please check any files from that folder is in use by other programs.  If you are not sure about, use the process explorer as suggested by "grtraders" and post ur results for review.

Plz also try:
Create a new folder and move the files to it and see if any violations.
