create search function in sharepoint

How do I create a search functionality in sharepoint. Note: Default was removed for un known reasons.

You can actually just create a new site using the search template and your back in business.  

from the site cllection homepage, site actions, create site, create your page name it Search , for url call it SearchCenter and under template, enterprise use the search center with tabs answer the additonal questiosn about user pemissions and if you want the top link bar  pick yes

before you do that on the site collection homepage goto site actions, manage content and structur and make sure its not still there just hidden

ok, all of those suggestions are great, what if I ask for default search setup.....

(I'm a novice to sharepoint)

What do I need to do to make the search function active as if it were out of box installed.

do what i put in my first post.  basically your recreating the site that was allready there.  just follow the steps
