How to fix a PST file

I am running scanpst.exe on outlook.pst and it freezes at some point - sometimes at phase one
sometimes at phase 7. Outlook 2007 has been updated with SP1. PST file is 5GB.
How can I repair it. it contains very important email history.

I would first try using Outlook to repair the PST file.

If that doesn't work you might want to consider a 3rd party application.

Try to copy the pst to another folder (copy, not move, to discard read errors). If you can copy it to another pc even better.

Usually scanpst.exe take a very long time to finish. Watch the process in task manager to see if it is actually frozen. With a 5GB pst it could take an hour to finish (depending of your hardware of course).

Use Advanced Outlook Repair at http://www.datanumen.com/aor/ to repair and fix your PST file. We have used it to solved many PST file problems.

So far I've tried the Recovery Toolbox. Only 10% of the information in the PST has been recovered. I'm going back and forth with the tech support people. Not very happy with the results.

I was only able to save 10% of the information in the PST file. 90% was gone
