Can Symantec Endpoint Manager 11.0.5 manage SAV 10.1.6 clients

I have upgraded from SAV 10.1.9 Enterprise  to Sym Endpoint Protection Manager.  My question is: Can the Sym Endpoint Protection manager manage the older version of clients (formerly managed by the SAV 10.1.9 server)?  OR do I need to upgrade the clients software too?

I don't think you understood my question.  The link you posted above indicates that each client has to have their SAV replaced with the new SEP software and with the option of managed or unmanaged clients.

My original question (and still is) was that when I upgraded from the SAV 10.1.6 (in which used to manage a dozen clients)  to SEP 11.0.5 Manager Console what I need to know is that do I need to upgrade the old clients to the SEP 11.0.5 also?

According to instructions found for Univerity of Pennsylvannia (, SAV 10.1.6 clients must be removed prior to installation of SEP 11.05. As yet, I have not found any documentation that confirms the ability to manage earlier clients as SAV 10.1.9 did. I am curious as to an answer provided by Symantec (forums or otherwise as an authoritative answer).

yes you need to upgrade the old clients to sep.
or you will have to have 2 managers running one for sep and one for sav (you will need 2 separate servers for better performace) you can migrate to sep11 directly from sav corp 10.1.6 but you might experiencing issues when deploying sep to the sav clients  if you are runing the sav corp firewall.

This is an older question, but as an answer hasn't been accepted, I'll presume it's still open.

Did you uninstall the SAV 10.1.9 Parent server from all server(s) or is it still running somewhere?  If you uninstalled it, and you need time to upgrade all clients to SEP, you'll have to reinstall the Parent server software and then copy out the certificates to the clients.  If you backed up the certificates, it can be restored so you won't have to copy certificates to each machine.   If you need help with that process, let us know here and we can help walk you through that process.

Luckily both SEP Manager and SAV parent server can run on the same machine which helps with hardware if it's powerful enough.
