SQL Server pre-installed on SBS 2008 - useable for apps?

Just installed SBS 2008 Standard Edition and noticed it has SQL Management Studio and SQL Server 2008 running despite the product literature claiming SQL Server only comes with Premium Edition.

Is the version installed just for "behind the scenes" operations or is it usable for applications which run on SQL Server?

If it is not usable as a DB platform for 3rd party apps, do I need to do anything extra while installing SQL Server 2008 Express Edition to support my app (QuoteWerks Corp. Edition)?

Sorry - but the comparison chart you referenced shows exactly what I stated in my question - SQL2008 comes with SBS Premium, not Standard. As I look more closely at the SQL Server Management Studio console, it has something called SBSMONITORING, so I assume this installation of SQL Server is used to manage under the hood stuff in Windows 2008.

What I'm wondering is whether I can use that same installation to run apps that require at least SQL Server Express or if I can install SQL Server Express IN ADDITION TO the "management" version that's already running. Will I break something?

You can use the same server for other applications

I think Aneesh was actually answering your question the first time. SQL Server standard (not talking about SBS editions) is on that box. You can use it for as many purposes as you wish as long as your licensing model (per seat? per processor? etc) allows for it and are paying for the appropriate license.

You also can install express edition in addition, if you so choose.

The initial reference to the features chart didn't tell me anything I didn't already know and the statement he then made that I can use the same server for other apps was technically correct but offered no explanation for why it is not mentioned in SBS documentation as usable for DB apps other than what ships with WinSBS. I ended up using other sources to confirm and expand on the explanation.
