Cisco Router Replace Config From File

Ive been trying to run the Replace and Roleback command however it keeps the old configuration

How do Iset a new config file for the Router to use as the new startup config, totally removing the old config?

Hi,

You able to copy the config:

copy run flash:old.txt

If you want to use old config:

copy flash:old.txt start

Please indicate the name of the new config file and it's location.

And post the command you are using to attempt the replace operation.

Also, what platform and IOS version are you running?

Im running 15.0.1 Enterprise Services

I dont want to use the old config, id like to use a new one that I have on flash which is conf.txt, everytime I run it, it seems to do the rollback commands

Let's try this one more time.

there is no roleback commands on cisco routers, only if you save the running-config or startup-config to flash or tftp and copy it if you need....

configure replace flash:conf.txt as well as configure replace flash:conf, txt force

Cisco 2821, IOS is 15.0.1 Enterprise Services which I had previously answered

Do you get any error message when you issue the command?

Does any part of the config get replaced?

Is the source file in the correct format? (The actual format of the commands in the archived file is rather specific)

TestMonkeyAuthor Commented:
Not an error, just says Rollback Commands failed

Just did a complete reconfigure, ended up using the Console cable

Istvan KalmarCommented:
When using the configure replace command as an alternative to the copy source-url running-config command, increases efficiency and prevents risk of service outages by not reapplying existing commands in the current running configuration.

It worked with the console cable but with telnet?

Hey Don

Nope, I just reset the router to factory defaults and built from scratch vs the replace config
