Extending a dynamic disk which was originally a basic disk

I recently run out of space on the C drive of the Windows 2003 server and tried to extend it using DISKPART, it wouldn't allow me to extend C , so I changed it to Dynamic disk, rebooted and tried again. This time diskpart didn't allow me to extend as the dynamic disk was originally a basic disk. IS there a way to remedy this problem, or do I have to wipe the C drive clean and start again?

If C: is your boot partition then you will not be able to extend it through Windows 2003. You can use tools like server magic or Ghost new editions. Look at this article which will guide you how to extend the system/boot volume in Windows: http://www.hdd-tool.com/partition-magic/resize-windows-server-with-partition-magic-software.htm
