Copying the new *.lic license file into %SYBASE%\SYSAM-2_0\licenses folder should work..

If not, then kindly apply it as per

Adding to the above:

You need to make some decisions about how the license will be used, "served" or "unserved". If you have only one ASE then unserved is best - that's when you extract the license into a file and just put it in a local directory on your server. You will not be able to use this on another machine as the licenses are generated per host when you do it this way.

You will also have to shutdown and restart ASE for it to pick up the new license file.

ok, i did all of this.

I'd put the license file into %SYBASE%\SYSAM-2_0\licenses and it's unserved but unfortunately when i reboot the server i got the following in the error log:

kernel  SySAM: Enterprise java bean server is already down.
kernel  SySAM: Checked in graced license for ASE_CORE (2009.0727).
kernel  SySAM: Using licenses from: C:\sybase\sybase\\SYSAM-2_0\licenses
kernel  SySAM: Checked out graced license for 1 ASE_CORE (2009.0727) will expire Mon Jan 04 14:14:52 2010.
kernel  SySAM: Failed to obtain 1 license(s) for ASE_CORE feature from license file(s) or server(s).
kernel  SySAM: This platform not authorized by license.
kernel  SySAM: License feature name:  ASE_CORE
kernel  SySAM: Platforms:     i86_n <> x64_n
kernel  SySAM: License search path:   C:\sybase\sybase\\SYSAM-2_0\licenses\00-15-60-A6-CC-E7.lic
kernel  SySAM: FLEXnet Licensing error:-89,310
kernel  SySAM: For further information, refer to the Sybase Software Asset Management website at http://www.sybase.com/sysam
kernel  Error: 131274, Severity: 17, State: 1
kernel  SySAM: WARNING: ASE will shutdown on Mon Jan 04 14:14:52 2010, unless a suitable ASE_CORE license is obtained before that date.
kernel  This product is licensed to:
kernel  Checked out license ASE_CORE
kernel  Adaptive Server Enterprise (Edition not set - under grace)

Regarding statements in BOLD:
  • The running server is Development Edition and the (product edition) section in the license file= EE, what should I do?
  • The platform section in the license file is PLATFORMS=x64_n similar to the operating system platform, why did i get this error?

Those messages are pretty clear - you have the wrong license.

Sybase licenses ASE by product, version and platform. You have a mismatch with 32-bit vs 64-bit.

There are only two ways to fix this: get a new license, or get a new platform. For the first, it may just be a mistake during the licensing process, in which case talking to whomever you got the license from should fix it. For the second, reinstall on something that matches your license.

You will probably also have to disable all the premium separately licensed options now, too.
