Bulk Email ID Modification

Hi,

We are using Windows server 2003 AD and Exchange server 2003

Currently , the standard email ID looks like:

a.xyz@ourcompany.com ; where "a" is the first character of the first name and "xyz" is the last name of each user

Is it possible to collectively modify all email IDs such that all users now get a new ID as follows:

firstname.lastname@ourcompany.com

may be by modifying the GAL

A step by step article would be very helpful

Hi,
Recipient Policies would be the answer to your query.
Refer: http://www.computerperformance.co.uk/exchange2003/exchange2003_recipient_policy.htm
Let me know
THanks

Thanks Qupnit , I used ADmodify and its working except for one thing:

Setting the primary SMTP address to the new firstname.lastname@ourcompany.com fails after some time since by default the option to "automatically update e-mail addresses based on recepient policy" is already selected for all users. In short , the primary SMTP address is changed back to the original one which is logonname@ourcompany.com

The ADmodify tool itself has a similar option , see image below but it not clear what the two check boxes highlited in red are supposed to do

I need the new SMTP address to stay as the primary one

Do we have to modify the default recepient policy as well? I thought that the tool is enogh

Has Powershell sent you back into the Stone Age?

If managing Active Directory using Windows Powershell® is making you feel like you stepped back in time, you are not alone.  For nearly 20 years, AD admins around the world have used one tool for day-to-day AD management: Hyena. Discover why.

OK , I figured out the issue related to the automatic update;  here is how:

The 1st check box next to the "Automatically update ....." option will make this field selectable.
If the 2nd check box is not selected then the automatic policy update will not be applied to usres

Issue solved

Another issue appeared today as follows:

Many users have more than one word in their "last name" filed" separated by spaces

Now with this method , the resulting email ID will also contain spaces

Is there any way to eliminate these spaces from the new email ID or restrict the variables to use:

(firstname) + (lastword of the last name)
