MOSS 2007
Office 2007

I am having issues where xlsx files cannot be opened unless the user logs into the site.  Anon users are getting:
You do not have permissions....
Make sure the file is in an Excel Services trusted location...

XLS files open for anon user's fine.

I was told that this is a quirk in MOSS and the work around was to have users save files in the XLS format.  Has this issue been resolved or was the information I was told incorrect and there is a work around?

a few things
first moss thinks that all xlsx files want to be opened using excel services.  therefore any place you put an xlsx file, that doc library should be added as a trusted site.  one way you can help anon users is to do this.  on the doc lib go into settings, permissions for ths doc lib, actions edit permissions, now under settings, anonymous access make sure they have veiw items selected.

They are in a trusted location.  I have a mix of xls and xlsx files in the same location.  Anon users have view rights.

-ensure that the Excel Service is running
*It is.

-File Access Method:  ensure that it is not using Impersonation, instead the Option Process Account should be enabled.
*It was Impersonation and I changed it, stop and restarted services, users still can't access the xlsx files.

-add new trusted file location
*I made the entire website a trusted file location - no change

-Location Type: should be Windows SharePoint Services
*It is.

-Children trusted: defines whether the children should also be trusted or only the defined path
*Trusted

Again, this issue is ONLY with xlsx files created on Office 2007.  Xls files created on Office 2003 or 2007 work fine.  Xlsx files created on Office 2007 saved as xls files work (open).

yep that is because xlsx files want to be open with excel services.

try this.  for the anon peice you can do it for yoruself as well.  this should turn off the execel services opening the xlsx

opn excel, hit the windows thing then publish, then excel services, then uncheck open in excel services and see if that helps

Good point - it tells you why you can't use xlsx in Excel Services.  External references, Camera Objects, Comments, ActiveX, etc.

I'm done.  Thanks for your help.
