install backup Agent on Linux Suse 9

I have SUSE Linux server version 9, I want to install the ARCserver agent on it with the license Key but I don't have the experiance to do that with Linux.
The main software are installed on windows machine but the agnet has to be installed on the client... so I need to install that agent on the Linux directly.

Thanks for your support

What format is the software currently in, .tar .rpm ?

Dave HoweCommented:
there is an install.sh on the cd - just mount the cd and run that.

if you have the tgz, you need to decompress that on the linux box (not on some other machine), or you lose the x flag settings that you need for a successful install.

Log into the server and get root.
Untar the file to a local directory; tar -zxvf file.tar.gz
Look at the contents of the untarred package in a directory named for that package. We are looking for a README file.

I did run as you said but I got the following messages.
tar: 15.5.linux.tar.Z: cannot open: no such file or directory
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now
tar: Child returned status 2
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors.

the file name is right and with lower and upper case but still giving me this errors as I went to the content on the CD :

cd /media/cdrom
to be :
linux:/media/cdrom #

please advice

ok, checked the media I have here.

you may have typoed the name there - I have 11.5 here, most recent available on the ca site appears to be 12.5

the downloadable appears to be "BAB115Linux.zip" for 11.5 (presumably on 12.5 that just goes up by one) and contains a subdir "babagent"

this in turn contains a shellscript "install_sdo" which seems to actually perform the install, and some installable modules (an rpm which contains in turn a cpio.gz file, and a deb which I assume contains something similar) but you don't actually need to mess with those as the install_sdo script does all the work.
