Increasing Mailbox size for a specific user

I'm using exchange server 2003 with exchange system mgr 03 and I'm trying to increase the size of a certain users mailbox size.  I did search on here but most of what I found tells you to go to Mailbox Store Properties and increase the size for across the board.  Well a couple problems with that, it says that it's already set to it's maximum (2097151).

So my question is, is there a way to increase that size, and also, can I just do it for an individual user to go beyond that?  Thanks.

Stacy SpearCommented:
Go into users and computers, select user, Exchange general tab, storage limits. Uncheck use store defaults and enter in new settings or leave blank. Remember the sizes are in kilobytes.

Seems like I can't increase beyond 2097151... anyone know a way around this?

Leave the settings blank then. That is an enormous mailbox! I have a few VIP users like that and before we picked up Enterprise Vault, some had 4GB mailboxes.

Simplify Active Directory Administration

Administration of Active Directory does not have to be hard.  Too often what should be a simple task is made more difficult than it needs to be.The solution?  Hyena from SystemTools Software.  With ease-of-use as well as powerful importing and bulk updating capabilities.

Hi,
Do set up for that Individual User, assuming he/she is very important, leave it Blank, it would make it unlimited
THough, I would be tempted to say that train the user on Archiving and importance of small Folders, else he/she will be in real trouble soon. Archving based upon Yearly PSTs is cmmon practise :-)!
Thanks

I would tend to agree with Nitin.

Whilst there is a way to modify the setting further using ADSIEdit I would not recommend this.

It would make your setup non-standard and could cause you problems in the future with updates/migrations etc.

Does anyone know if there is a maximum size limit for how much space your exchange server can use total? We just keep adding users and mailboxes... do I have to worry about running out of space some time?

Depends which version.

If it's Exchange 2003 it's 75GB per store but you can only have 1 store.

If it's enterprise then it's 8000GB per store.  And you can have 4 stores per storage group.

Sorry thr should have been 5 databases per group see here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822440

The GUI only allows you to set a mailbox limit of 2gb. Nothing larger.

You can go much larger than that if you take the limit off. Theoretically the size of the mailbox store. The only performance hit will take place is on the number of items in a folder.

If you want to set a limit that is over 2gb, then you can set one in adsiedit.msc, but that is not something that I would recommend. If a user is simply being given more space rather than being made to restrict what they store, there is little point in having restrictions.

Simon.
