Help!
I can't figure this out... I'm not getting anything on the event viewer on the exchange server, but for some reason, the users cannot open outlook.

Whenever they try to open it, it says "unable to open your default e-mail folders. etc etc etc".

The only thing I did was install windows updates last night.  After the restart of the updates, they cannot get on anymore.

Can you please help me??? The whole company is down.

Help!!!

After searching around the event viewer... this is the ONLY error I get.  This might not even pertain to the problem, but I just wanted to share it.

Can you check all the services that start with Microsoft Exchange are started?

Also check the information store is mounted.

Sorry I should have said all services that are set to Automatic.

Also to find the information store open Exchange System Manager and navigate to Administrative Groups > First Administrative Group > Servers > Servername > Storage Groups > First Storage Group
right cluck on mailbox store and select mount.

Another thing I just tried...

On a client computer, I tried going to run and typing \\exchange (the server's name) and was unable to get into the folder.  It says "the network path was not found".

I am able to get into the exchange server, get out to the internet, and even access my primary server's shared folders.

Help!

Is the Windows firewall turned on on the Exchange server?

Check the server IP address hasn't changed?

Can you ping the server by name from a client machine? If not run ipconfig /flushdns then try pinging again.

I just restarted the primary server (not the exchange). After the reboot, I was able to get on the exchange server.
Strange...

Is there a DNS issue here???

Sounds like it.

Did you also restart the primary server at the same time last night?

It could be as simple as the DC was unavailable when the exchange served came back online so the exchange server was unable to bind to a Global Catalogue server.

Are you back online?
