Kaspersky 7 + XP Pro: cannot stop, pause, change settings or exit

Hi All
Have a desktop running XP Pro SP3 and kaspersky 7..(can't tell u the build...part of problem). It is working/scanning/updating etc. It also seems to interfere with Acronis backup. I decided to right click and pause protection...menu shows up fine but I can't actually press (chose) on any selection incl. pause or stop or exit for that matter. Opened the program, could not change any settings. Used task manager..results include, cannot stop now, system is locked    or   access denied even tho full rights etc. Tried msconfig to shut off and rebooted...no luck (not a surprise). Went to services.msc., will not allow me change change any setting (access denied)..can't stop it, pause it or change any settings here....wt?...I am working remotely on clients machine using Acronis to backup over holidays...do not want to uninstall as all functions seem to be working.....Just want to stop it so I can perform backups...any suggestions would be much appreciated...

Hi there;

To kill it instantly as admin:

PSKill
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896683.aspx
Process Explorer
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx

Also, if it's set to check the files in startup, you may not stop the process, so:
Please go:
Settings -> Startup objects and uncheck "run on system startup".

Best regards.
Hello. Yeah Kaspersky Antivirus is a real tough guy, it has to be to deal with virus. I don't think you will be able to kill the process.

If you are in a corporate LAN maybe there are policies applied from a Kaspesky Administration Kit somewhere in the network. If it is the case you have to contact a system operator to unlock the settings.

In any case you should log on with administrative rights. If you already are and can't stop tasks it must be that auto protection feature of Kaspersky is enabled. This feature disables external control over the kaspersky interface when using remote control applications as Dameware, RemoteControl, VCN, etc. So log remotely using remote desktop (RDP protocol).
So, did you try kiling with the programs I recommend?

Best regards.
