Thanks to the both of you. I actually did all steps before trying again.So far it is working. So we will see if it happens again.

At this point the CD drive is functioning normally. I believe it was the Reg fix that acutally fixed it. The upper and lower filters deletion that is.

XP locks upthe OS when CD is inserted. With Both Local CD Drive and a USB CD Drive. Doesn't matter what kind of disk. I have ran virus scans, malware scans, and registry scans. I once thought it was the primary cd drive so I installed a USB CD Drive and same problem. I do not want to tell him I have to rebuild his PC due to that not really being an option.<br />

So I have ruled out cables, CD Rom Hardware, and media.<br />
