XP locks upthe OS when CD is inserted. With Both Local CD Drive and a USB CD Drive. Doesn't matter what kind of disk. I have ran virus scans, malware scans, and registry scans. I once thought it was the primary cd drive so I installed a USB CD Drive and same problem. I do not want to tell him I have to rebuild his PC due to that not really being an option.

So I have ruled out cables, CD Rom Hardware, and media.

Help is much appreciated.

Thank you,

I will try those steps today. I'm not sure when he will have time for me but those are all good places to start.

At this point the CD drive is functioning normally. I believe it was the Reg fix that acutally fixed it. The upper and lower filters deletion that is.
