Excel 2007 Locks up Frequently

This question has been asked before here at Experts Exchange, but not resolved (back in January 2009) -- I am having the EXACT same issues.

All Files are being saved in .xlsx format.   Still locks every time I open an Excel file.   Very Frustrating.  Do a Google Search of:  "Excel 2007 Locks Up" and see  the hundreds of others dealing with this same issue.  Microsoft was NO HELP and they now want $249 to trouble-shoot their their buggy software!   No way.  I'll dump Excel before I pay them to fix their flawed program.

Any clues on what is cuasing this?   I have a newer i7-920, 4-GB RAM, Windows 7 (32-bit) - ATI Radeon 4770.   System is very fast and very stable -- except for Excel!

It could be a number of things. Most likely it's not Excel itself but an external issue (external to Excel that is).

*First off, try moving the files to different harddrive. Is it still the same?
*Try opening the same files on another PC running Excel 2007.
*Click on the Home button (big-ass windows logo) > Excel Options (hardly visible...). Now open the Add-Ins tab.
At the bottom it says Manage: <component type> GO
Start at the top and work you way down the list. Deactivate one add-on by time and check if the problem presists.
I'm using Excel 2010 so this is mostly from memory.

    Does any these help?
If not, open Event viewer and check the application log. Here I guess you'll find some warnings. See if they corresponds to the time of Excel freezing and post them here.
You can open the Event viewer by going to Start > Run > eventvwr.msc

I found four (4) COM Add-ins and I disabled them all, then it fixed the locking issue.  Thanks!
