I upgraded my esx 3.5 to Vsphere.  I dont remember the exact configuration on my vSwitch, but now is working.
My question is this..

Must the Virtual Machine Port Group be exactly like the vSwitch.  I will provide examples of what i have.

my second question is must the tab be checked in the Port Group Configs in order for them to work

No you dont have to unless you want to further control the settings for each PG
A: By default, PG will inherit vSwitch settings unless you explicitly change them

my second question is must the tab be checked in the Port Group Configs in order for them to work
A: No, same answer as the 1st, inherit from vSwitch

funny.....

So all port grougs must be configured to the vswitch..for optimal optimazation..or it does not matter...

Depends on what you want to do, if you feel like changing it yes should be fine but for standard & simple mgmt all can inherit from vSwitch
Unless you think specificic PG for different vlan requires special setting like "promiscous mode" for monitoring purposes, no harm of setting it if you know what you are doing
