SBS 2003 service pack 2 upgrade failure

guys,

i'm really having a nightmare. i have installed service pack 2 on our Primary Domain Controller SBS 2003 with no service pack. but berfore installing this, i have noticed that whenever i try to install service pack 2 using windows update the installation is always unsuccessful. search some solutions in the forums and followed the instructions from:

http://forums.techarena.in/windows-update/790992.htm#post3275816

with his instruction, i missed delete the oem*.* from my %systemroot%\inf folder.  after doing the instruction, finally windows update installed service pack 2... but when i reboot the machine everything is MESSED UP. mmc does not work. DNS server is not working. network card does not appear in the network manager window (Control Panel), IIS is not acccessible, all things in MMC becomes unoperational;. doesn't connect to the internet and can not ping other system within the network, copy and paste does not apply in window manager, drag and drop is not possible. in short, i had problem with my network.  SQL server still works by the way. i checked My Computer->Manage->Services... when i right-click a service and click properties  nothing pops up.

before doing the instruction, i copied CatRoot into my desktop and copied CatRoot2 in %systemroot%\system32 and renamed it to oldCatRoot2. since my machine is not working, i'm trying to reverse the instruction. i'm trying  to move back Desktop\CatRoot into the %systemroot%\system32 but it doesn't work. tried moving the files using cmd prompt but it doesn't copy the .cat files - which has SA attricutes - or may have had some syntax in my copy or move command especially in folder that starts with {. by the way, how do i copy files with SA attributes?

can i roll-back to the previous state by uninstalling service pack 2? would the network and active directory be set up at its previous state? sad to say, i didn't back up my system before the upgrade.  i didn't expect that this could be the worse effect after the upgrade. i was thinking that upon upgrading, i'll be having a more secure server.

please help.

phillip,

about those instructions - renaming of CatRoot2, removal of .cat files - does it has to do with the problems that i'm encountering? i can not uninstall service pack 2.

best regards,
