If you look under tools and then notfications there is a whole host of alerts you can force backup exec to send via email.

1.- you need to go to tools-recipients, there you can create the mailbox recipient user  whom will receive the alerts (select  smtp option and add the smpt email adresss example( jose@microsft.com)
2.-  go to tools-email and pager notification(here you  will configure your email server) select enable smtp and filled up all the fields.
3.- to configure alerts categories go to tools-alert categories, there you will see   a box to configure your alerts select (media inserts) as you request  to be notified when  tape need to be changed , in fact you can select several  alerts ,select send notifications  to selected recipients(this will enable  the box recipients),select recipients (add users as needed)
to verify you can go to recipients, below of the smtp email adress you will see a text box ,select to recive an email as test

Jose
