In other words you can use same type HDD of 160GB will work for sure. I recommend getting bigger drive of 250GB if you plan to upgrade the drive.
from this article, it looks like an IDE drive :  http://www.parts4nb.com/catalogue/product/dell-xps-m140-60gb-internal-hard-drive

there is no problem, upgrading to 120 Gb, but if you try a larger one, it may no be used completely - due to bios limitations
but i found this 320 Gb :  http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330355907328
so it looks your bios can handle bigger sizes

You shouldn't have a problem going all the way to a 320gb IDE hd with the bios on this box. But, you will run into issues if you try to use cloning software to transfer your old partition to your new drive due to the way this box supports HPA partitions.

I have installed 160 GB Western Digital Harddrive without any issues. Looks like we can go upto 320 GB on this.
