Add my own tables to Joomla website

Dear Experts,

I use Joomla 1.5 under a LAMP environment. I am using Ubuntu 8.04. The site works just fine.

I want to add my own tables to my joomla site. Moreover, I need to be able to make queries and get the results.

For example, I want to add to the database 10 tables/columns. I would like to make a query and get data from 5 columns only and present the query result in a table.

Is there a component/plugin that will help me achieve the above? If not, any hint how can I do the above? What do I need to do it?

Thanks in advance.
