SMS_Eecutive service keeps stopping.

I'm running SMS 2003 on Windows 2000 Server Standard. After a batch of updates the SMS_Executive service won't stay running for more than a a few minutes. The event log only shows "The SMS_EXECUTIVE service terminated unexpectedly."

I came across a possible solution in the form of deleting the .TMP files in the "schedule.mbox" folder. That had no effect. Any ideas?

1) try to simply reboot the server (if you alread haven't) and see if there is any change.

2) When the SMS Backup job kicks off, it will stop the SMS Executive - Maybe you have a problem with your back up in SMS?

3) check the logs in the \\yoursiteserver\SMS_XXX\Logs directory.  Especially the smsexec.log to see if there is information as to why the service is stopping.

It turns out that applying the SMS 2003 SP3 update fixed the problem.
